I love this part (makes my heart clench!):

“I’m breaking,” she’d whispered into the phone. “I’m scared there’s only dust inside.”
“It’s Okay,” he whispered back. “That’s what they make bricks from.”

I normally read fridayflash with music on in the background, when I started reading your story I turned the volume right down as your descriptions are really captivating.

You had me with the rain hitting her hostas.
Loved the descriptions.
Loved her father's simple faith in her strength... what can be more beautiful than a parent's unconditional love?
wonderful story.

Wow! You pack a lot of story into each sentence. I always have to give your stories a dedicated read. If I don't pay 100 percent attention, I feel like I missed something good -- and important. (This is a good thing -- Margret Atwood commands my attention in the same way).

I love the image of fading away into nothing. What a wonderful way to describe grief and loss.

Truly, this is a fantastic story.
